Frio Gel Pack Cooling Bag

I use a Frio gel bag to keep insulin cool on trips. The bag includes a gel bag that fits inside. You wet it and the gel expands. The gel dries out over time and this keeps the insulin cool. I have a doctor's scrip for all my supplies, but will they let me take this on a international flight as carryon? I do not check my supplies, because if the bag is lost, I am in big trouble.

My suggestion is to email TSA...they are good about answering in a day or so. If they don't allow gel packs, ask how they suggest keeping your stuff cool.

Also, take all medications in original packaging, bottles, etc. or ask your pharmacist to label a smaller container for your use that contains what you will need for the trip. For example, if going for 10 day trip, no need to carry a 30 day supply. It is not just our TSA. Other countries custom agents are really suspicious of medications in unlabeled bottles. Been there reciently and really glad I had my drugs in correctly labeled bottles.

I took the Frio gel pack last year as carry on for my trip to France and was never questioned by TSA. Flew from San Diego to Dallas and then to France with the same route as return.

You're not only dealing with the TSA, so check with the countries your flying into and out of. However, we've traveled with lots of supplies for my diabetic father, including extra liquids, etc and never had a problem on either US-EU or EU-EU flights.

I support everyone else saying bring all your documentation!

Hope you have a great trip!
