We so much enjoyed Rick's auto tour of the French Gigondas, Sugeret region with little villages/wineries and hiking between the villages in the Dentilles Mountains. Is there anything similar in the French Pyrenees? We would like a base village, and then walking/hiking to other small villages in the mountains.

Modesty prevents me recommending my hotel, but you might want to look at the area around LARUNS. Absolutely STUNNING scenery and a great area for hiking. We are just in the foothills; it's more wine-tasting, cheese eating and LOOKING at the mountains around here! :-)
