French Open Tennis

Have tickets to French Open for one day - general admission. Any advice on how to make the most of it? Best place/area to stay in Paris---and how to get to roland Garros courts??
Many thanks!

I can't help you out at all but we're going too! I looked it up on Mapquest but since I don't know my way around Paris at all, it meant nothing to me. Too bad they don't have night matches at the French. It's like only having half the experience.

I'm not going to the French Open, nor have I ever (sadly), but I am a huge tennis fan, so actually a lot of people on a tennis message board might be able to help. A bunch of my friends are going and they've all found places to stay, etc. I'm sure if you asked in the French Open sub-forum at www.menstennisforums.com , they can help you with neighborhood, location, and tournament-type logistics, then you come back here and ask for transportation and lodging advice. :)

Have fun, I am very jealous!

We did this last year while staying in Paris. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the subway station where Roland Garros is located. But we asked someone at the hotel and they were able to tell us the stop. After you exit the station there are no signs to point you in the correct direction, but again, just ask someone standing around outside. That's what we did and the guy was very helpful in pointing out the direction. After you walk for a few minutes you will see more and more people all walking in the same direction...just follow.

Hi, Lyn -- I go to Paris every year, and was a student there in the 1970s when the French Open was still not "discovered" by many other than the tennis conogscenti.

For accommodations, stay in the part of Paris you want to be in. My favorite hotel is the ** Hotel Bellevue et Chariot d'Or, between Les Halles and the Marais in the 3eme. 4 excellent metro stops within 5 minutes walk, 8 minutes from the Pompidou, etc. Check out www.tripadvisor.com or its website.

As for getting to Roland Garros, the metro station is Porte d'Auteuil. From there it's a quick walk. Not sure when gates open, but get there an hour ahead to check the schedule of play. Gen'l admission tix usually don't get you onto show courts. Check out the schedule of play ASAP so you can gage who you can see play where...and when. In 2000, my partner and I snuck onto Court 1 for the day, and saw Mary Pierce (the eventual winner) and several others, incl. Martina. Also some young swiss guy named Federer. :)

Yikes...that Google Maps web address I posted is long, but it does work.

...just in case, the address is: 2 Avenue Gordon Bennett, way out in the west end of Paris (16th "arrondissement").
