best place for small, relaxing, wine, etc. between florence and paris on train route. want to spend several days relaxing/enjoying as opposed to more museums/sightseeing.
Two very different areas but both on your way - Burgundy and Provence. Both have small towns and good wine. In Burgundy, I'd take the train to Beaune. In Provence, I'd take the train to Arles (smaller and more scenic than Avignon).
Another vote for Burgundy, Beaune is a nice touristic small town, even if you are not keen on museums les Hospices are a must see. You can also relax in Dijon where the town centre is very walkable. Last year it earned the prestigious label "Town of Artistic and Historical Interest". Good food and wines, nice parks, Kir lake, great food market, shopping (+ museums, churches, exhibitions...) Everything you want is there! :-)
