Hello, Some car rental terms list as "not included" fees of a bit over 30 Euro each for a road fee, and an environmental charge. Anyone have experience with these? Other car rental terms don't mention these extra costs. Are all car rentals charged these two fees in France? wayne iNWI
After renting cars during five trips over the last five years it appears that it depends on the method used to rent - I've rented directly with AVIS and Europcar and the others were through brokers. The direct bookings billed the enviro fee and road tax afterwards. The brokers did not. Perhaps the fee and tax were included up front in the billing by the brokers. To tell the truth, I booked so far in advance it didn't really matter. I usually book up to six months in advance.
Darn it. I just examined the agreement again and the environmental fee is applied to auto transmission vehicles. Since I drive manuals, that explains the lack of billing for the fee and only being billed for the road tax.
You pay them all in the end. It just depends on when/where they show up. Don't worry about it.
Hello, I agree that some point I will pay for them. But evidently I am the comparison shopper. I have one bid that says, "All inclusive, no surprise costs for renting the car", and they give me a bid of $500 for the time of use. Are environmental charges and road fees car rental costs, or usage fees? Are they in the price of $500 or not? A second rental bid at $435 says, "plus environmental, and road fees." I'll pay the correct fees no matter, but the underlying rental costs are hard to determine. And don't pick on the price, it is for 24 days. wayne iNWI
Wow, 435 and 500 for 24 days! What companies did you contact. I want to contact those too.
Yes, those fees are normal. Sometimes they are included up front, other companies will bill locally at the end.
