I will be traveling around the Loire Valley to Lyon in September. I'm trying to find info on short barge trips on canals or rivers, but so far everything I have found is for 6-7 days and pretty pricey. Any good suggestions out there for a 2-3 day trip? Even a day trip would work; just looking for something off the beaten path. Thanks!
Self-drive or crewed?
I'm open to either. We are capable of operating a small barge, but may prefer to be passengers if it's the right fit.
Take a look at leboat and locaboat. I've only used the latter, but them a bunch of times. They both are reputable and work pretty much the same areas. I'm fairly sure they have shorter periods available, but you'll have to poke around a bit on their websites. My experience on the crewed barges is so old it's useless.
Thank you! I will check both of those out.
I'm looking for the same information....have you had any luck in finding a 2-3 day barge trip?
Don't know the answer to your question, but sounds amazing. We were just in those areas and loved it. I recommend the chateau at Chaumont-sur-Loire. If you can time it right, they have an antiques/flea market on Sundays along the river bank under the castle. You could walk from the boat to the flea market and castle. And if you or anyone in your party likes gardens and you're there during the garden festival (pretty much all summer) then plan most of a day. Amazing.
