Hello travelers, Freiburg question...I was planning a day trip to Colmar on a Wednesday but was not sure of the best method to get there. Any suggestions would be magnificently appreciated. I am thinking bus is probably the best option. I will not have a car available. Thank you! :)

Itineraries available at www.bahn.de. Basically Breisgau S-bahn to Breisach, then change to bus to Colmar. Some other variations thru Basel all by rail are also there.

Unfortunately for two great cities basically across the river from each other the rail connections are awful. Unless you take a bus you will be training either up the Rhine (south) to Basel and back down the other side, or down the Rhine (north) to Offenburg, slow local train to Strasbourg and train to Colmar. I've been there, done that. Yukk. I've had a car and it is just so easy. Sorry. Shame.

I could possibly have a car but am only about 30% sure of it. Any idea of how long the drive is?

About an hour by car. Hour and a half by S-bahn/bus combination.

40 to 50 minutes with me driving. 1:20 for the S-Bahn and bus. 2 hours via Basel.
1:50 to 2:30 via Offenburg and Strasbourg.

Awesome thank you!! I talked my husband into us going together so we will be driving. We will probably only be there for the evening (5pm on) but will save time and money with the car plus it will be worth it to have the company
