Free weekend in mid-October

I will be in Munich for business in mid-October, and have a weekend (Friday afternoon through Sunday evening) free before I need to be in Zurich - at a time on Sunday night that allows me to be ready for work again on Monday. I am totally unfamiliar with this area and haven't a clue how to spend the time! I'm a bit of a cooking enthusiast, so any learning-about-cooking opportunities would be really cool - and I do not want anything to do with shopping. Thank you in advance for any ideas!

How's your German? My two ideas would require some language proficiency on your part, I guess. But these look like learning-about-cooking opportunities to me, and I figured a "bring an umbrella" response, though exhibiting wisdom, may not have been the best ever response you were hoping for. 1. In between Marienplatz and Isartor S-bahn stations on Tal 31 (easy to find) is the Maggi Kochstudio München. Looks like they do a set cooking course every weekend. https://www.maggi.de/maggi-kochstudios/muenchen/Kochkurstermine.htm 2. The Münchner Volkshochschule also offers weekend cooking courses. The equivalent would be taking a course at your local community college. http://www.mvhs.de/Erweiterte_Suche1881.htm ... Use "Kochkultur und Weinkunde" as your search Thema. I did a sample search for the second weekend in October and 8 courses returned, most of them Saturday courses. May not be the easiest thing to register for and do, and if you have no German language... my suggestions won't be so helpful. You could always search around the toytown fora for other ideas, there's a wealth of info there. Cooking theme is found under Miscellaneous. Here's the Munich page...

Hello Kay. I recommend : Friday afternoon stay at Munich. It has good museums. Saturday - go on a day trip from Munich to the castle Neuschwanstein and ride in a cable gondola up the mountain, very near Neuschwanstein. There are various transportation options : go in an organized tour with a group in a bus from Munich, or ride in a railroad train from Munich to Fussen and ride in a bus from the Fussen train station. An entrance time is printed on your ticket for Nueschwanstein. Your entrance time can be booked in advance.
