Hi All im thinking of adding on a short Germany piece to my vacation and thought a couple days in the Rhine Valley would be nice. Im planning on arriving in Frankfurt in early March. I dont want to drive but would rather do the train. Is this a worthwhile journey ? Any thoughts on what towns to stay in. From what Ive seen there are many beautiful towns. Braubach and st goar seem nice.
Thanks for any help
With a car, you can get a good overview of both sides of the Mittelrhein in about a day, so two is probably enough by train. Not enough time to explore EVERY town and castle, but enough for a representative sample. Braubach, of course, has Marksburg, but its also very small. St. Goar has a better choice of hotels and restaurants. I personally think Oberwesel is the most interesting town on the Mittelrhein, but it's not as well equipped for visitors as St. Goar.
It sounds like you are adding this trip to another segment. In order to see how they tie up can you share the other place you are going?
Id like to thank those that replied. and in answer to one post, you are correct, I was adding it on to a cruise we were about to book out of rome to turkey, greece and egypt. however with tensions escalating in the mideast, Egypt as well, we are foregoing our plans to hit the med and instead are going to South America. Again thanks for those that replied
A coupl of days in the Rhine Valley- do spend at least a portion on one of the boats. You could also stay at St goarshausen- a ferry ride across the rhine from St Goar, close enough to see and eat in that town. Seems quieter with quite a few hotels etc I would also consider a trip by train or ??? up the Mosel
