Thought we would take a little time driving prior to our river cruise. Where would you stop over if you had 3 nights?

annemarie, please add the state to your address (for air route information ...). That's because I wouldn't fly to Frankfurt for a cruise in Lyon, I'd fly to Geneva, or maybe better, Paris (then train to Strasbourg [or Tours or Limoges]). Paris is usually as cheap as anyplace to fly to, and your car rental could be $200 less to return the car in the same country as you rented.
The other reason for not flying to Frankfurt is that the drive is too far for the time allowed. Alsace alone is good for three days, as is the Jura. So you'll spend too much time driving and parking if you start in Frankfurt.
We personally prefer to stay in one hotel for three days. Likewise, it's hard to reconcile a River Cruise with three hotels in three nights, if that's what you had in mind?
