My nephew is in Spain. He flies in to Frankfurt on Ryanair. How can he get to Kassel by train? Can I get him a ticket from here? I have just found out there is a Hahn airport that is a long way from the main airport in Frankfurt. Is this where all the Ryanair flights land? If so, how can he get the ICE to Kassel from there? Please help. He lands at 5pm on Monday the 25th of April.
Bus service from Hahn to Mainz or Frankfurt; buy a train ticket to Kassel from there. Bus from Hahn airport: http://www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx?menu=by_bus&cc=en
RyanError does not fly to Frankfurt. It uses Hahn, which is closer to Luxembourg than Frankfurt. There is a two hour bus to Frankfurt Hbf. It also stops in Mainz and at FRA. According to the German Rail website, in most cases, the fastest route is usually to just take the bus to Frankfurt Hbf and the Bahn from there. (Hint: use HHN Flughafen Hahn)
Well thank you so much my worst fears confirmed. Now he won't be able to get a train until after 7pm and the last schedule I looked at showed the last ICE leaves at 6:30pm, and he won't get into Kassel until midnight. What a complete pain and all for a cheap plane ticket. I think I am going to advise him to try to get the ticket refunded and fly on another carrier.
You won't get a refund from RyanAir. The only place to get train schedules is from the Bahn website. The Bahn shows a bus leaving Hahn at 17:30. Those buses are usually timed with RyanAir flights. He should be able to make it. That bus gets to Frankfurt Hbf at 19:15. There is an ICE leaving Frankfurt at 9:58, connecting with a regional train at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe between 21:20 and 21:28 and getting to Kassel Hbf at 21:35. By the way, you really should know if he is going to Kassel-Wilhelmhöhe or Kassel Hbf. If he should miss the 17:30 bus, the next one is at 19:15, getting to Frankfurt Hbf at 21:00. From Frankfurt, there is an ICE at 21:13 and an RE at 21:21. Both get to Kassel before midnight. You can get your son a ticket here, online, from the Bahn. If you do, I suggest it be a full fare, fully flexible ticket. That's good any time. He just walks up and gets on the train. If you buy it using a credit card and have it printed out at home, he will have to have the same credit card for ID on the train (and the name on the credit card will have to be his). Unless you use a credit card that he possesses, that won't work. However, if you have it mailed to him, it will be, I think (anyone know otherwise?) a nameless, fully flexible ticket usable by anyone on any train.
Where is he flying from on Ryanair? Kassel is closer to Ryanair's "Cochstedt" airport, also to Air Berlin's Paderborn-Lippstadt. Even Cologne is closer than Hahn...
Thank you so much for all the advice. Will try booking a ticket for him with his credit card. That should make it easier for him. This website blog has been great.
