Frankfurt, Switzerland mid March

My husband and I will be traveling to Frankfurt in the middle of March for a business meeting and would like to make the most of a first time trip to the area. He is quite n accomplished skiier and would like to ski in the Alps during our 9 day stay in the region. I am overwhelmed with so many options and need help with an itinerary. Suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!

The closest major Alpine winter resort area to Frankfurt is Oberstdorf, about 3-4 hours drive to the south. If you specifically want to ski in the Swiss Alps, some of the resorts closer to Frankfurt include Flumserberg and Pizol-Bad Ragaz.

Susan, do you have an extra nine days to do some skiing in the Alps? Or do you have only a few days after hubby's meeting? I'm not familiar with skiing in Switzerland. However, for Germany and Austria, I would consider these areas. The Zugspitze (Germany's highest mountain and a glacier) and Alpspitz mountain in the Garmisch ski resort. When we lived in the Frankfurt area, we would take the midnight, sleeper train and be on the slopes by noon. The ski resort in Lermoos, Austria. This resort is located on the other side of the Zugspitze, south of Garmisch. It's known as the Zugspitze arena. So it would only take another 1/2 hour from Garmisch. The town of Lermoos is in the valley surrounded by mountains. It's smaller than Garmisch and has lots of B&B's to choose from. Austria tends to be less expensive in respect to lodging, etc. It's a cute little town. I can give you suggestions for B&B lodging. Another option is Kitzbuhel, in Tyrol Austria, a world class ski resort. Just yesterday I was watching the World's competition in the downhill and Super G. Again, you ski on a glacier on the top of this mountain. Guaranteed snow. If you have 9 days on your own, you could also consider Madonna di Campiglio in Italy. Beautiful area with, again, great skiing. Have fun on your trip.
