Frankfurt Museums Riverbank Fest

Are you looking for an unusual fun fest to go to while in Germany and the Octoberfest isn't your cup of tea? Then the Museumsufer Fest in Frankfurt, held the last weekend of Aug. each year might be for you. The Museums Riverbank Fest in Frankfurt is one of the premier events in Germany, attracting about 3 million visitors over a 3 day time period. The entire riverbank is lined on both sides with about 600 stands and 24 stages, and all of the museums participate in this grand event. All you need to do is buy a button for 4 euro and you get entry to all 21 museums all weekend long. Just about the best deal in Germany! The music stages present a huge variety, from cool Jazz in the museum gardens, to hot Tangos and Salsa, Soul as well as Bavarian, and every kind of ethnic, pop, grunge, indie, rock and rap to suit all tastes. Food and drink from around the world, artwork and hand-crafts, and all ending with spectacular fireworks on Sunday night. The Program is in German , so if you have questions, just ask me: Museums, Stages and Events http://www.museumsuferfest.de/orte Sat. night is the Organ Mile and Sun. night is the Choir Mile. Beginning at 17:00 each night, the participating churches will offer a concert each progressive hour. Beginning at the Drei Koenig church, you move on to the Heilig Geist Church, then to the Katharinen Church, the Liebfrauen Church and end at the Kaiserdom. That sounds really good, Jo, especially the Organ and Choir Miles. Wish we were still there....

You have sparked my interest, Jo. If I'm not in Belgium that weekend, I'll check it out.

I think every year Jo and I discuss it on here: It's THE beer and wine fest event in Frankfurt. Compare it to Oktoberfest BUT add plenty of inter-cultural aspects to it. Also it's a waterfront festival and you can take boat rides (there even is a party boat/night club boat crusing through the festival all night - you can dance and party on the decks and inside the vessel)... On average it's visited by 3 million people (on those 3 days).

I think I forgot to mention the Dragon Boat Races all day Sat. and Sun. and the fireworks on Sunday night. Am so excited, as l look forward to this fest all year long and will be spending the whole 3 days there. Even got a free tour to go up in the Commerz Bank to see the artwork there on Sat. night. (this is the tallest building in the EU and has an atrium that goes all the way up through the building, so quite interesting) Will anyone be here this weekend to meet up?

Even though it keeps raining off and on, the Fest has been lots of fun last night and today. Such yummy, international foods and great music every where you walk. I quite like the jazz coming out of the gardens behind the museum. It matches well with the huge Beduin tent set up where you can relax, drinking fresh peppermint tea. Beautiful and creative hand-made gift items are for sale everywhere, and I don't know how many countries are serving up their national dishes, but have been trying to taste as many as possible. If you haven't been able to plan to visit this year, keep it in mind for next year, as it is always the last weekend in August. I guarentee, you won't be dissappointed.

Topping this up, though a little late, as today is the last day. Really a great fest. Had so much fun there yesterday and heading back there today. Fireworks tonight and more museums to visit. If you have time and are in the area, don't pass up the chance to see the largest Cultural Fest in Europe. (hey Rick! you might want to put this fest on your list of festivals in Europe)

"Tom is probably going to the Belgium Beer Fest and maybe the Formula 1 race although he seems reticent to say so possibly out of deference to you." Or, perhaps I was making my regular trip to Belgium to visit my family. You know what they say about assumptions...

What American holiday was this past weekend? As far as I know, there aren't any American holidays in August, or have they changed something? I don't think Tom is too shy to let me know what his plans are.
