I will have about a 3-4 hour plane layover in Frankfurt and need something to do to pass the time. Any ideas or is this not enough time to do anything worthwhile?
Thanks.
3-4 hours is not a lot of time. Does it include the time to travel back to the airport and go thru security? Where are you flying to from Frankfurt? You could take a taxi to the market square of Höchst (all built in the 1200s), walk around, visit the castle and then have a local lunch or snack at one of the market square restaurants. Very charming, 20mins taxi ride (one-way) from the airport. Alternatively take S-Bahn #8 or 9 to Taunusanlage, alight, walk towards the Opera House, turn right into the pedestrian zone, maybe have a snack or lunch at one of the many food places there, continue walking via Hauptwache, turn right in front of the big Saturn/Esprit department store, continue walking via St. Paul's to Romer Square and down to the river front, from Romer back to the airport by U-Bahn and S-Bahn.
Andreas:
Thanks for your reply. I'm coming from Vancouver, Canada on Lufthansa and land in Frankfurt at 10:40am local time and then leave for Venice at 4:00pm. As you say, not much time but would at least like to go to a German pub for a pint and take in some of the atmosphere.
Thanks, again,
Murray.......
Jarrod, FRA airport is 15 mins from the city centre. I assume you're talking about Frankfurt Hahn airport, which indeed is more than an hour away from Frankfurt. But from any tall building in downtown Frankfurt you can see the airport (as you can also see the tips of most tall buildings downtown from the airport).
The airport is nowhere near Frankfurt. It is so far away that it shouldn't even be called Frankfurt International. Sorry, chap, you'll have time for nothing unless you spend a night there.
