Can anyone recommend a hotel convenient to Christmas market in center? Someplace with a little charm! Would like to avoid housing my friends in the middle of the red light district on their first night in Germany.

The Red light district only covers about a 2-3 block square, and the rest of the city has dozens and dozens of hotels. For close poximity to the Christmas Market, try Hotel Mirimar or the Spener Haus. An easy tram ride or U-bahn ride away would be the gorgeous neighborhood of Westend.
