Frankfurt, Germany --- Best Area to Stay In

What is the best part/section of Frankfurt Germany to stay in for two to three weeks?

Depends on when and how much you want to spend per night. Do you want lots of amenities, do you want a B&B sort of place, or a big hotel with pool, etc. Do you want a neighborhood or to be in the middle of the city night life? Give me a few ideas and we can fix you up with no problem.

I'm going to be there on business, so I want hotel conveniences plus access to bars, restaurants and the S-Bahn.

There is not really anything wrong with being near the train station, but yes, the "Mosel strasse" is not that nice. I walk down this street and in this area rather frequently as I like some of the restaurants there and though it looks quite "racy" or seedy, I have never had a single problem there or been accosted or even spoken too.

I find the best bargains on www.hrs.com.

I still do not know your budget. I mean the Hilton and the Marriot and the Westin are lovely, and I would recommend them, but I can't afford to stay there. For lower priced, (but no pool) I would recommend the Hotel Monopol, Ibis on the Friedensbruche, Hotel Bristol, Hotel Concord. If you want to find a place farther away from the train station, perhaps Hotel Mirimar which is on the Berliner Strasse, or the Holiday Inn in Sachsenhausen for a great view of the city. There are also some lovely, smaller places. Look in Westend which is the highest class neighborhood, or down by the Zoo, which is also close to the downtown area. Try Hotel Alexander there.

Frankfurt is very walkable, but also has a great transportation system. Anyplace you stay will probably be within a 5 min. walk of either a bus, tram or metro stop.

Hank, when in doubt, check rick's germany book. Frankfurt is often my transit point to and from europe so have stayed many places rick recommends,
all have been fine, priced as book said, and safe.

Thanks for your advice. I have a crew traveling there on a one month business trip. Many of Rick's hotel recommendations are fine for the leisure traveler, but I have people that may need to work in their rooms and they need to be comfortable and have conveniences available.

For example, I stayed in one of Rick's hotels in London for three weeks on a business trip. This place would be fine for two or three nights, but not for three weeks. This is especially true because we had to leave the hotel at 6:30 AM and we didn't return until after 8 PM. The hotel offered little in the way of services. I had to schlepp my laundry five blocks. So I'm looking for an inexpensive (EUR 115 a night including VAT) full service hotel. Thanks.

Also, we need need to be close to an S-Bahn station and be in a place convenient for a daily trip to Darmstadt Monday to Friday. Thanks.

Try these, as they are more for long term stays.
Derag Hotel and Apts.

Lindner Hotels

Paragon Apts.

These looked like they were all under 100 € per day, but that might depend on when you are arriving. If you have a lot of people, you might be able to negotiate something. All of these places were close to the S-bahn. Paragon looked fabulous, but the site is not in English. Try looking it up on HRS.com and see if it shows up.

My company has a deal with the Marriott. We were able to get in for EUR 115 per night --- until 10-Mar-09. We have to move to another hotel for the last week because the rate jumps to EUR 385 --- a "little" over our budget.

Is there some kind of a special event in Frankfurt the week of 10-May-09. The hotel rates sky rocket that week.

Thanks.

Thanks to you all. I found rooms in Darmstadt that, while high relative to what we are paying the first three weeks in Frankfurt, are a bargain compared to what's available between 11-May-09 and 16-May-09.

If you like it small town, country side, in the hills but only 30mins from downtown Frankfurt consider staying at the Rheinischer Hof (http://www.rheinischer-hof.com) in Bad Soden. It's right at the terminal train station (S-Bahn #3), bars and restaurants within a 5 mins walking radius, great old park that even includes a tiny little chateau just around the corner... And 20mins S-Bahn ride to Frankfurt Central train station, 30mins to Hauptwache (downtown).

Yes, there is a big trade fair which is jacking up the price of the hotels. Have you looked in Langen or in Darmstadt itself? If you are working near there, why not go ahead and stay there. The hotel prices will not be as high either, I would imagine. Langen is quite pretty, with lots of old, half-timbered buildings. Having to move from one hotel to another is not ideal.
