Hi - We are flying to Frankfurt Germany and flying home from Milan Italy Sept 20 - Oct 5 of this year. We plan to use the railroads. Would anyone be so kind as to offer their suggestions about places to visit and things to do? We are 2 couples in our 60s so we can clinb mountains!

Some additional information would be helpful. For example, what type of sights are you interested in? Are there any cities you especially want to see? Have you been to Europe before?
Frankfurt to Milan provides some interesting possibilities. You could (for example) stop in Rothenburg, Munich, travel through the Brenner Pass, visit Verona, Lago di Como and finally a quick tour of Milan (leave that for last as the other locations are worth more time).

Hi Vernon - thanks for your reply. The 4 of us traveled to London, Brugge, Normandy and then to Paris last year. The other couple has traveled to Europe 2 or 3 times, but that was the first trip for My wife and I. (Other than cruise ship port of calls).
On last year's trip, we enjoyed the subways, the fast train from London to Brussels, the museums, and eating in small neighbor hood pubs and restaurants.
I personnaly like the idea of riding the trains in Europe. Beyond that I do not have clue. We have a lot more research to do to determine what we should do and see.
