Frankfurt -Day Trips around w/ child

My husband may be going to Frankfurt on business for a week. My daughter (9) and I will be going with him and needless to say will have time on our hands while he is working (6 days). What are good day trips from Frankfurt? Can we do the Rhein, Rottenburg, etc fairly easily?

Jennifer, you could do the following: Day 1: Frankfurt sights, shopping, dinner in SachsenhausenDay 2: Open air museum Hessenpark, it's like a very small Rothenburg (http://www.hessenpark.de/english/index.html), dinner on the 800 year old market square of Frankfurt Höchst (which is also a castle with walls etc)Day 3: Cruise down Main river into Rhine river with stops in the "Tuscany of Germany" area of Rheingau and then on to the castles. Full day river boat cruise. Days 4-5: Trip to Alsace, EuropaparkDay 6: Heidelberg and Schwetzingen (little Versailles)That's a good mix of fun and culture, you will be able to see a lot of the "big sights" and still have enough time to being able to enjoy them rather then just rushing from point to point...

Jennifer, if you and your daughter like to walk, and like forests and/or fairy tales, you can (with some planning, granted) travel for about 1/2 hour via S-Bahn from Frankfurt to the lovely small town of Bad Homburg and from there catch a bus for a very short ride (maybe 15 minutes)up to a restored Roman fort called the Saalburg. This is fascinating, and it's also a great starting point for some walks in the woods. No big hills, nothing too strenuous, but lovely mixed-hardwood forest, meadows, wildflowers, and well-marked trails. The great thing about this area, the Taunus Mountains, is that you're in a real forest but you're never very far from a road or even, as I once discovered to my amazement, a full-service café complete with a very welcome, immaculate restroom! By the way, this area isn't terribly far from the woods where the Grimm brothers collected many of their fairy tales. Bring a sack lunch and camera, and enjoy!
