And here are some of the highlights of downtown Frankfurt during the Christmas season: http://www.weihnachtenseite.de/ffm.html
Andreas, looking at the bottom two photos, is there a church building in Frankfurt that looks exactly like the one in Wurzburg? I'd swear the last two photos were taken in Wurzburg.
UPDATE: Sure enough, I looked on Google Maps and found that church in Frankfurt that looks exactly the same as the one in Wurzburg.
Great photos. They make our Christmas Market here in Chicago look a bit weak. But at least we have one... Thank you very much, Andreas.
Jarrod, the bottom two pictures actually show two different churches. The one of the left hand side picture (the one that looks a little like built from lego bricks) is Old St. Nicolas right on Römer Square. It was built in the 15th century and functions as a protestant church. The church shown in the bottom right picture is Liebfrauen church ("Liebfrauen" literally translate to Dear Woman and means Dear Mary, Mother of Jesus). It was built in 1321 and the connecting Capuchin cloister was built in the early 15th century. Even totday it's still a cloister and the church functions as Catholic church. The two are about 1/4 of a mile apart and the Xmas market stretches from the one all the way to the other.
Looks wonderful! I will be in Frankfurt November 17-26--do you think it will be decorated by that time?
Sarah, yes, it will be. As a matter of fact the Christmas market opens in the late afternoon of the 26th of November.
