I recently met a German woman who'd moved here a few months ago when her husband's company transferred him from Germany. She asked me if there were Christmas markets here. I had to tell her, sadly, she'd have to make do with the local mall.

Thanks Andreas.

Terrific picture of a wonderful event. I fully plan that one day we will enjoy and experience the wonderful Christmas markets and try to take advantage of the holidays in your area (actual place to be determined). While I would like to do it sooner, we'll have to see what the future brings!

You also have a great pre-holiday and holiday!

If anyone is going to be here in Frankfurt on the afternoon of the 11th, the Alte Nikolai chuch is offering to let people go up on the gallery that overlooks the Christmas market. I was up there yesterday and it truly is a beautiful sight. Especially once it starts getting dark (16:30) Just walking up the hundreds of year old, spiral stairs to get up there is cool.

You can do this from 16:00-18:00 (4-6 pm) and they are asking for a donation to the AIDS benefit concert that is taking place in the church that evening.

The Alte Nikolai is the red and white church sitting on the Roemer square in the middle of Frankfurt, that Rick tells you to walk past in his "walking tour" of Frankfurt. Big mistake, as this church is so pretty inside, very gothic, built in 1290, and the 47 bell glockenspiel is also wonderful to hear. If you are here on Wed. at 12:10, a woman comes and plays them. Really special.

Hi Andreas

No matter how many pictures I see of the markets, I can't ever seem to get enough. Thanks again!

No snow yet? Gee, this morning I could have sent you plenty as a blizzard made driving to work a mess. Then by the time I headed home the temp was at 48 degrees, the snow had turned to rain, and now while I'm writing this I am listening to thunder. Who says the climate ain't changing????

The Market was white this year. We were there Dec 18-26th and the snow was icing on the kuchen.

Danke Frankfurt am Main.

It was really pretty when it snowed on the 20th. We went to a hand-bell concert in the Alte Nikolai and then wandered around the market, enjoying the snow and the lights and aromas.

I hope you got to experience the Pealing of the Bells on the 24th. I could not believe the 1000's of people that showed up to hear this. The churches were packed too, before and after, but the bells were simply outstanding.
