My wife is a part-time author. Her publisher is manning a booth at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year and expects to do the same next year. Next year the cards may be right for my wife (and myself) to consider attending at our own cost. Hotel costs near the Messe, to be born by us, will probably be a bit pricey for our tastes, even at a discount to the steeply elevated rates of major fair. We are looking at places 20 to 30 minutes from the Messe by Sbahn. Offenbach might be a possibility. Bad Homburg, Kronberg & Königstein look pretty pricey. Any further suggestions for other nearby communities to check? Thanks, Gary
Any of the towns that are anywhere near Frankfurt will still have higher rates. If you find one that is lower it will be in a town too far away and you end up spending your savings on train tickets and time spent riding 45 min. on a train into the city and back each night. Not ideal after an exhausting day at the fair. Otherwise I would say try Darmstadt, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Langen, Friedrichsdorf, or Bad Vilbel. You might be able to lock in something at one of the budget places if you book right now. Look at the Ibis on the Friedensbrucke or the Holiday Inn Express. There are also a lot of B&B's, pensions, and apts. to rent in the city, and though they will be charging more for the fair, it may not be as high as a hotel.
