Looking for the best town to stay convenient to Frankfurt by train. Wife - likes shopping / spas / massage / is Chinese. Our son is 3 needs opportunity to play and speak German with playmates. Mandarin too. Plan to stay 20 - 30 days - one place as home base. Hard to decide what town best. Need comortable house or appartment w/ kitchen.
Still in a quandary about which town would be best for us – hoping someone might have some more info that would help me to make up my mind -
Didn't you post all this a while back?
Wiesbaden would seem to be the most logical spot with its baths (http://www.frommers.com/destinations/wiesbaden/1034010029.html), proximity to Frankfurt (30 minutes), it's more cosmopolitan than the other smaller towns along the Rhine/Main and it is convenient to Frankfurt by train as well. Not being from there, I wouldn't know for sure, but I would feel safe in guessing that there are houses/apartments that can be rented there.
I guess I still think Bad Homburg is the best for all the reasons that you had stated before. Though you might want to look at Hofheim, Oberursel, Kronberg, Bad Nauheim, Bad Soden, Bad Vilbel, or Darmstadt. This just began in Bad Homburg, just to pique your interest:

Wiesbaden would be convenient, although you'll pay a lot of money to stay and shop there. Haven't been to Bad Homburg yet, so I can't comment on it. Bad Kreuznach is another spa town that's a little further away, although it might not be too convenient by train to Frankfurt. Bad Dürkheim is another spa town that's also further away, but may be more convenient by train than Bad Kreuznach. It is also well known for its wines and it yearly Wurstmarkt.
