Frankfurt airport to Mainz by train

I will be landing in Frankfurt airport and travelling by train to Mainz hbf and there will be 4 of us going. I have checked the bahn.de website and after doing the clicking the bahn.de website it shows under the standard fares column that fares not available. What does this mean? Does anybody know how much a train ticket would costs from Frankfurt airport to Mainz costs? Is there any group ticket similar to the Bayern ticket which is costs saving for small groups which I could buy from the ticket machines to get to Mainz? thanks for all suggestions.

The Bahn does not show the fare from FRA to Mainz because it is entirely within a "Verkehrsverbund" (metro district). Because the Bahn does not sell online tickets for such trips, they don't show the fare. The fare is €3,90 pP by S-Bahn, which you can board in the Regionalbahnhof. By long distance trains (ICEs), which use the Fernbahnhof, it would be more. Transport for that area is run by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, RMV, www.rmv.de. You can find fares for that district on their website.

There is also an RMV Gruppentageskarte (group day ticket) for unlimited trips between the airport and Mainz for €14,70 for up to 5 people. That would save you a little on the trip to Mainz. But, where are you going? There are these group ticket all over Germany. Many are issued by a German state ( Land, pl. Länder) for travel on regional trains within that state. Others might be issued by a transportation district ( Verkehrsverbund), like Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund in Frankfurt. The airport and Frankfurt are at the southern tip of the German state of Hessen. For Hessen, the "group ticket" is the Hessen-Ticket, €31 for up to five people. It's validity area doesn't extend very far east/west of Frankfurt, but is can be used for travel north as far as Kassel. Marburg is in Hessen (actually in the RMV). Possibly the most important Länder-Ticket for you is the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket. The Land, Rheinland-Pfalz comprises essentially all of Germany between the Rhein and the Frence border, from Karlsruhe almost to Bonn, and on both sides of the middle-Rhein around Koblenz. It includes Mainz. The ticket cost €21 for one person and €3 more for each additional person up to 5 (€30 for 4). See my webpage for more info on Länder-Tickets.

Thank everybody for your response. I think I will get the group ticket which I believe is also valid for use for trams and buses in Mainz. My intention is to go from the Mainz hbf to M ombacherstr 80 (2.3 km) where I will pick up my rented car from Avis. Checked from goggle map and it seems quite close to the Mainze HBF. Is there a certain website where I can check what buses/trams I can take from Mainz HBF to this location and make use of the group ticket? Would it I be able to know which busstop to get off or can I ask the bus driver? Thanks. Or should I just take a taxi aine it is only 2.3 km away? BTW how does taxi rates go in Mainz?

The connections are on the RMV website, www.rmv.de. Put in Mainz Hbf to Mombacherstr 80, when you put in Mombacherstr 80, the website will add, "Mainz - Hartenberg-Münchfeld". You'll get a list of connections. Click '>' for details. Looks like you can get off the S-Bahn at Mainz Nordbahnhof and walk about a km or get off at the Mainz Hauptbahnhof and take a bus (or tram) to "Mainz Zwerchallee/Phönix-Halle", which is about 300 yds to the address. Whether it is a bus or a tram depends on the time of day. If you click on the word "Fußweg", the RMV website will show you a map of the walk. The bus/tram fare is included with the ticket you used from the airport to Mainz Hbf.
