Does anyone have advise as to which is the best hotel at the Frankfurt airport to spend the night before flying out the following morning? We will be arriving at the airport by train in the evening. We stayed once at the Steigenberger Express Hotel, but I don't see it listed now. It was OK. We're currently booked into the Sheraton, but that is expensive just for an overnight before a flight. Any advise will be welcomed.

What time is your flight? If it is not super early, I would not stay at the airport. It is so easy to come into town and quick.

Our flight is at 10:55, so we need to be to the airport by about 9. What is the best way to get to town? If we do stay in the city, should I take the train to someplace other than the airport?

We stayed at the Sheraton last year due to time constraints. We arrived in FRA from Turkey at 10 pm and our next flight to JFK was at 8:30 the next morning. I didn't want to drag my wife and kids into town so settled in at the Sheraton.
Decent hotel and obviously convienent.
Where are you coming from? and what time is your flight the next morning? If not too early, you can easily stay in Frankfurt and get to the airport in the morning.

My friends and I stayed at the Motel One a few exits down the autobahn from the airport last year. It was inexpensive, convenient to the airport and very clean with terrific service. Ideal for place to simply lay your head for the night and they have a good breakfast in the morning so that you don't have to rush. Not knowing how expensive the Sheraton is, I don't know if the Motel One would be cost-effective if you have to take a taxi there and back.

You can take the S-bahn into town and it only takes about 11 min. and they run pretty frequently. The hotels that are near the train station are quite nice and you can get them for around 65 € for a double. Check the Hotel Monopol. If you leave at 0800, you get to the airport in plenty of time. A taxi will cost about 30 € to go to the airport.

Jo is giving you some great advice. We took the train from the airport to the downtown Frankfurt train station, walked about 1 block and stayed at the Hotel Paris for $90EU/nite. (www.hotelparis.de)
It had a great little room, and good breakfast. There was great Greek! restaurant nearby where we had dinner. The walk along the river front was wonderful.
We caught the cab to the airport the next morning. It was cheap, and got us there in less than 10 minutes.
