CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO FIND THE RAIL TERMINAL LOCATED AT THE FRANKFURT AIRPORT (FRA)? HOW DO I GET THERE? ALSO, IS IT REAL CROWDED AND TIME CONSUMMING TO PURCHASE RAIL TICKETS AT THAT TERMINAL? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
GEORGE
Just follow the signs. And, please, don't put everything in caps - that is rude.
I know some people, like my mother who can't see very well, like to use caps to write emails with, but for the rest of us, it is a bit difficult to read. The same thing goes for those who just use small letters or no punctuation. On to the question at hand. There are 2 rail stations at the Frankfurt airport, so it depends on where you are going and what kind of train you want to to be using, which train station you go to. The Regional Train station, which has just S-bahns going to Frankfurt, Mainz, Wiesbaden and also Regional trains going various places, is located under Terminal 1, and the escalators going there you will find by Arrival Hall B-1. The Long Distance train station, or Fernbahnhof, has the ICE trains, and other longer distance trains than the Regional train station and is sort of situated behind the Sheraton. There is a long walk way to get there. There is no way for us to know if it will be crowded or not, as we don't know when you will be traveling, nor where or which train station you are going to use. The more information you give us, George, the more detailed answers you will get.
For more info on stations at FRA, see my webpage. I've never found it time consuming to purchase rail tickets at either Bahnhof. I use the counter at the Fernbahnhof, but the automats at the Regionalbahnhof. Last time I was there, I bought an S-Bahn ticket to Mainz from the RMV automat and a Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket from the Bahn automat next to it. It took about a minute.
The most amount of time it has ever taken me to buy tickets at the Fernbahnhof is about 10 minutes. As the others said, just follow the signs... actually, that's good advice for trying to find anything in Germany. Unless you're trying to find someone's house, there's almost always a sign to point you where you need to go.
How do you find places at airports in Texas? They must have signs as well. Regarding tickets: If you can buy your tickets online, print them and bring them along. Make sure you book a fare that's flexible on the actual train (that is times) as on the day of your arrival things might not work out just as smoothly or your flight might get in late - or 2 hours early. Been there, done that.
