France-What is in bloom during September

I am planning a September 2012 to Paris and Nice. Probably mid-September. Will any flowers still be in bloom? Weather? I will be driving, so side trips are also on the plan. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Don't miss the rose garden in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, called "Parc de Bagatelle". It is stunning.

In the Paris area, I would think dahlias, late summer flowers, roses, mums, asters - hope you have a chance to visit Claude Monet's garden at Giverny, because anything that's blooming in September will be beautifully displayed there. The weather could be anything - warm and sunny, rainy and chilly, all in the same week. The days will be significantly shorter already. Nice, I'm not familiar with....By the way, the flower stands and shops will be full of gorgeous cut flowers at prices so cheap you'll wish you could buy armloads of them.

In Burgundy and Provence the vineyards will be beautiful...very colorful. Depending on the weather you may see people picking the grapes this can be later in September or early October. If you are driving up the A6 to Paris there are many lovely places along the way. Send me a PM if you want more info.

I'd be surprised if many (any) roses would be in much bloom in September - maybe hardy ones.

Roses most certainly bloom in September. There is usually a peak bloom period in May or June. Reblooming roses will bloom again throughout the summer and fall until frost comes. You will not have the big showy bloom of late spring or early summer but there will be some roses blooming in September. I agree with Susan, the Parc Bagatelle is beautiful. I've been there in summer and fall and it has always been worthwhile. Never crowded either. Near Nice is Renoir's home in Cagnes sur Mer which has a nice garden. Very different from Monet's garden in Giverny but worth seeing. The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Cap Ferrat has gorgeous gardens
