FRANCE VACATION

MY WIFE AND I ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO PARIS IN AUGUST, WE FOUND LE TOURVILLE HOTEL DISTRICT 7 AND WONDERED IF ANY ONE HAS STAYED THERE. WE ARE NOT RELATED, ALTHOUGHWE HAVE THE SAME LAST NAME AS THE HOTEL, WE PLAN TO TAKE SIDE TRIPS TO LOIRE VALLEY AND NORMANDY WHILE STAYING 8 NIGHTS IN PARIS. DOES THIS SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA? ALSO ANY FURTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR TRAVEL IN PARIS AFTER WE LEAVE PARIS. WE HAVE ANOTHER WEEK. THOUGHT PERHAPS BURGUNDY, LYON OR PROVENCE AREA. SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE TO STAY WOULD ALSO BE HELPFUL. THANKS

Normandy will take two nights to do it well, three if you're going to spend a lot of time on the battlefields. That doesn't leave much time for a Loire excursion while doing justice to Paris.

A week's too long for Burgundy/Lyon. I't okay for Provence.

"WE PLAN TO TAKE SIDE TRIPS TO LOIRE VALLEY AND NORMANDY WHILE STAYING 8 NIGHTS IN PARIS. DOES THIS SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA?"

No, actually, it does not seem like a good idea--not if by "side trips while staying in Paris" you mean to try to the Loire Valley and Normandy as day trips from Paris. Both are, technically, possible as day trips--but you'll have to decide if, for you, technically possible = the best way to do it.

Most travelers (on this site) spend a minimum of one overnight in Normandy, that's the minimum, many spend 2 nights there.

Same remarks re Loire Valley. To enjoy Normandy and the Loire Valley, most travelers plan to spend one or more overnights in those areas.

Day trips to the Loire and Normandy aren't feasible except by organized tours. The reason is that private travel by train or car would just take too long to see the major sights that are scattered widely.

You could make a good week tour of Burgundy, Lyon and Provence, especially with a rental car. But you could see a lot by train as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any suggestions for staying in Burgundy, Lyon, or Nice? Also has anyone stayed at the Le Tourville Hotel, District 7 in Paris?

In Lyon, I stayed at Le Meridien Part Dieu. It was centrally located, the rooms were clean, great views, etc. For places to stay (in any town), I suggest tripadvisor.com. Have fun!
