We are flying into Frankfurt March 19. We are going to drive to the Beaune - Dijon area for two days and then up to the Chanpagne Region for two days. Has anyone stayed in a nice B&B or "Pension" in those areas? We are thinking about staying close or in Epernay versus Reims. Thanks - Bill
Bill, if you google "logis de france" you will find a fount of info on small hotels, family-owned, all over France. We have stayed at dozens over the years and have never been disappointed. Some times the owner is an excellent chef, as well, so a good dinner can be had, too.
My wife and I stayed in Formule1 motel in Sweden. They have numerous locations in France. I recommend you research http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/index.html. You will like the rates.
Rooms are cheap, clean and easy to reserve. If you have doubts, as I did, try one to see if it meets your needs. You will be surprised.
I stay with them whenever I can because they offer more value for my dollar.
Value for the dollar but zero charm.
Norma - I went to Logis de France and it seems to be what I am looking for. We would like a small hotel that has a neat restaurant. We like to stay reasonable, but we are willing to pay for a good meal. We love to eat the regional foods - and - God forbid - I love foie gras. Most of the places I looked at had their menus on their website. This is a big help. France is one of our favorite places to eat. The French seem to actually be in love with their food. Thanks for your help. - Bill
Bill: In 2004 we stayed at a little 2 star hotel in the village of Nolay, south of Dijon, which I can recommend to you. It was "Le Sainte Marie" and I can't remember if it is a Logis de France or not, but we had a superb dinner there and I tasted Epoisses cheese for the first time with the cheese course. It was divine. The good thing about these small hotels is that even if they are in the centre of a village or town, there is on-site parking at no extra charge. I hope you have a wonderful time and Bonne Route!
William:
Just a few kilometers from Eparnay you'll find the little village of Montmort Lucy. In that town is the Hotel Cheval Blanc (they have a website - just google it). We have stayed there three times over the years and recommend it highly. It is a small family run hotel with clean comfortable rooms. The real draw at this place is the restaurant - the food is out of this world at very reasonable prices. The wine list is a jewel and the owner suggested several wines that we were not aware of and they have become some of our favorites. Have fun!
