So my flatmate and I are studying abroad in Ireland currently and have planned 4.5 day trip to France. We are flying into Tours early the first morning and leaving late from Paris 5th day. Our plan was to take a train from Tours to Normandy when we land, see the WWII beaches and Mont St Michel and whatever else we can for 2 days, take a train over to Versaille and see that for a day, then train or bus to Paris for the rest of the days. We are not sure if we should do it in that order, or if it is logical, and we are trying to find the cheapest way of doing this, as it is the final days of our time in Europe and money is running low..
Are you studying at l'Institut de Touraine?
Alex, I think this is a problematic plan logistically. I do not know where that airport is, but you must get from there to a train station where the route to Normandy runs through Paris. Four or 5 hours by train. Your best base is probably Bayeux; you'll probably need a tour or a car to get to the beaches. For MSM: You can get to Pontorson from Bayeux in a little under 2 hours, not sure what the drill is from there. With respect to all of the above, given the short amount of time you have you would probably be better off with a car. Even so you will be filling up a good deal of your time with travel between destinations. From Normandy to Versailles by rail you must again go through Paris; from Pontorson the trip is 5-7 hours. If Versailles is a priority it is easy to visit as a day trip from Paris, which might be a better plan. None of this is cheap, either.
