France/Switzerland hike bike vacation

I would like to combine a trip to France and Switzerland. I'm familiar with both countries but on this trip I would like to be more active and include some day or overnight biking and/or hiking trips. Not strenuous but reasonable. Any recommended resources to work with on the ground (I'd like to consider a fairly broad range of possibilities) or areas to explore? I'm NOT thinking about a full 2 week bike or hike but rather a series of shorter trip in a couple of different areas. Many thanks

Burgundy is a great place to bicycle, and there are decent machines for rent (if you need one) in Beaune. It is more or less enroute from Paris to Switzerland. You can plan day trips or a point-to-point itinerary. For a fee, you can even have your bags hauled for you. You can probably do the same thing in Alsace.

Lots of suggestions for cycling routes in Switzerland, including logistics, maps, etc., here: http://veloland.myswitzerland.com/en/welcome.cfm One of our favorites is from Kandersteg into the next valley, the Gasterntal, which has no villages or road traffic, only a few mountain inns: http://www.myswitzerland.com/de/natur-pur-im-gasterntal.html Spend 2 nights in Kandersteg, rent bikes at the train station, and yu can do this ride and others suggested by the Kandersteg tourist office. spend three nights there and you could include some hiking up at Oeschinensee, a beautiful alpine lake: www.oeschinensee.ch
