We are going to Paris in April, staying main part of Paris for 2 days, then out to Marriott Villege D'Ile-de-France, near Disneyland for a week. Then taking train to Lucern, Switzerland for a week and back to Paris for flight home. We need help with picking the correct Rail Pass and Paris Metro Pass. We will be going into Paris most days from Marriott and taking tours by train and boat when in Lucern.
Thanks for the help,
Often when travel in Switzerland is involved, the answer is point-to-point tickets for other countries and a Swiss pass for Switzerland. The Swiss pas offers better discounts on private railways and the scenic lifts and trains than a 2-country pass. And if you have children under 16, you can get a free Family Card that allows them to travel for free with you. Right now the 4-day Flex pass is on a 2 for 1 promotion for travel in April, which makes it an even better deal. So for example, if you are a family of four, with kids 10 and 12, the parents' cost for a 4-day Flex pass is 262 CHF for both of you, and the kids go for free. That gives you 4 fully-covered travel days, and more at 50% off. http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/produkttexte.php?passid=1 You can buy discount tickets on the TGV from Paris to Luzern from TGV-Europa.
Uust as an aside, if you haven't bought your tickets yet, I would fly home out of Zurich...it's only about an hour from Lucerne by train and you wouldn't have to backtrack all the way to Paris.
Thanks Deanna, appreciate your insight. I am doing as you suggested and changed my flight from Paris to Zurich going home. Saved over $200 on train fare, which more than made up for the change fee.
