My husband and I are driving from Paris to Nice (3 days) in late June before catching a train to Cinque Terre and beyond. Can anyone recommend a good road map that we might purchase before leaving so we can plan our routes ahead of time.
The Michelin map books are, in my opinion, the best on the market for Europe.
I'd go to www.viamichelin.com while in PA to plan, then purchase the aforementioned Michelin map when in France. They're cheaper in France.
Hi, Getting a map ahead of time is a really good idea. We rented from Hertz last year at the Beauvais Airport. The car came without a map. I asked at the counter if there should be a map provided and was told quite politely that there are no maps for the cars. The local tourist office, extremely nice people, had no maps of France either. I would ask, "Why drive from Paris to Nice when you could take a train?" France is 4 times as big as Wisconsin. You are pretty much driving from one end to the other. Three days means super highways and no quaint viewing. The money saved on car rental ($100), Petro ($6+/gallon) and tolls (maybe $100) would buy you the tickets. Heck stop half way and enjoy a full day at Lyon, Vienne, Valence, Montelimar, or Orange. Just thinking,

If you want detail, buy the Michelin spiral-bound France Road Atlas. If you don't need that much detail, buy the Michelin fold out France map. Buy either one here.
