The following itinerary is under the assumption that we are coming back to France in summer. We are leaving for Paris on November 16th and back Nov 26th. (9 days). Our interest include small towns, architecture, people watching, cafes and wine. Weather is a major factor in our decision making. Of course its winter, we are prepared and did some research on the weather. So would it make sense to spend more time in Provence and come back in summer for the north of France. Option 1: 4 days Paris+Versailles and 5 days Provence+French Riviera Option 2:
9 days in Paris with day trips to Versailles, Loire Valley, Reims, 1 overnight stay in Dijon I know Option 1 seems rushed but if we spend 4 days in Paris what are the best options for the pending 5 days? Considering we are coming back in summer, what can be saved for that time? Thanks in advance for all your help. This forum rocks! :)
I like your Option 1. Last November we did wear winter coats but were comfortable. Was not as bad as February with cold and rain. Have fun, buy a souvenir scarf/gloves in Paris to wear if needed. I brought back these cute leather gloves with little bows at the wrists.
I think both options are good. You'll want a car for Provence in #1, and I'd consider Lyon over Dijon for #2 (but, follow your desire). Also the Riviera might be a stretch that is ultimately not worth it. One logistical suggestion, if your return flight leaves in the afternoon. There are direct trains from Avignon and Lyon to Charles deGaulle that bypass Paris, so you can avoid the need to return to Paris just to spend the night and catch your flight. (Much better to combine that night with the ones you are already spending there for a longer continuous visit). Just get up in the morning and go. You might also investigate flights home from the international airports in Lyon, Marseilles, and Nice, on the same principle.
