France in March - weather?

Getting a belated start on planning a two-week trip to France and having trouble getting frequent flyer seats in the prime travel months. What are your thoughts on travel in March? Obviously, we'd be avoiding the worst of the crowds, but would it be at the expense of miserable weather? Would we be better off waiting until September (if we can wait that long :)? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

September weather in France (where in France matters, of course?) is, as a general rule of thumb only, better than March weather.

Adding on to what Kent said: still only a rule of thumb, but I would say, significantly better weather on the whole.

If it were me, and I could wait, I would. Otherwise plan an itinerary that takes into account the greater possibility of inclement weather.

Having traveled extensively for 20 years, I would choose either month. Let the air fares determine your choice of dates.

Weather will be just like it is in VA anytime of year. Since we cant control weather I am not influenced by possibilities of cold or heat or rain.

It depends on where. If you're focusing on Paris (or other cities) and it's your first time, March. You'll see the big sights and museums with fewer crowds, and there's so much indoor stuff to do, bad weather doesn't matter. And, cafes with outdoor seating have heat lamps.

If you're visiting the countryside/coast/mountains, September.

My family and I spent a week in Paris in March of 2005 and had an awesome time. The weather was great - sunny and in the 50's. One significant benefit is far less tourists!!!

We're in a similar situation - so we're curious, did you go to France in March? If so, how was the weather and your trip?

Paul this thread is from 4 years ago,, the posters may not even still be on the forum. I suggest you post this as a new question. As for specifics,, some people will go in March and hit some decent weather one year, then others will go in March and hit rainy cool weather another year. No one can predict what you will get, but the basic information is that March is likely to be wetter and cooler then September.. but September will be more crowded and hotel rates will be higher then March( september is trade /fashion show season in Paris) .. If seeing mostly indoor sites( museums etc.) then weather is not a huge factor, but if interested in mostly wandering about, you are taking chances.
