France Day Trips

I am heading back to Paris for my second time this September. Prior trip was with the Paris 7 day tour and fell in love with the city. I am going to be there for 3 full days and I want to do some different things like day trips. Any recommendations on which day trip was fun for you? I was thinking perhaps Giverny or Vaux-le-Vicomte. I also would absolutely love going to Normandy, but I am not sure if it is easy to get there, etc. I am traveling alone for the first time as well. :) Thank you for any and all tips!!

It is only your second time to Paris and you have just 3 days. Stay in Paris and see all the wonders of that city ... or as many as you can in 3 days. Save the day trips for next time and revel in having 3 whole days.

I agree with Norma. With only 3 days in Paris you will never run out of fun, new things (ie, not repeats of things you've already done) to do. That said, my favorite day trips in order are: Vaux-le-Vicomte, Chateau de Fontainebleau, Versailles, Malmaison (Josephine's home), Giverny, Chantilly and Provins. All easy to get to. Whatever you decide will be fun. Enjoy!

wow!! Thank you for the great replies everyone! It's good to keep these tidbits in mind. I am like a kid in a candy store of possibilities. ;) I think I will choose just one day trip then and do more fun things in Paris on the other two days. Plus I am heading here to get over jet lag before I start my London city tour with RS... ;) I probably shouldn't tucker myself out before the real fun begins! :D

Rouen makes a nice day trip too, easy by train. (Can probably be combined with Giverney but would make for a long day.)

If you want to try a half day out of Paris you could go to Chateau Malmaison reachable by bus from La Defense in 20 minutes. Never crowded and a very pretty small chateau, once the home of Empress Josephine.
