One more question -- Are chip and pin debit cards needed for French ATMs to get cash, or will our regular Cap 1 debit card still work with the ATMs? Thanks!

I have a bank debit card with the VISA logo and it has worked through five trips over five years. However, I have a favorite bank that I use, Societe General, where the card has always worked, even at 0700 at a kiosk in a parking lot in Perigeux. The ATMs for this bank are not hard to find. As usual, be aware of your surroundings as you withdraw cash - some ATMs are out in the open on the street.
