Hello: I have set the following as a loop from FRA (cannot change arrival/departure airports): Day 1 Friday: arrive FRA at 8:00am, regional train to Rothenburg od T (overnight @ RodT) Day 2 Saturday: explore RodT, recover from jet lag (overnight@ RodT) Day 3 Sunday: morning train to Bamberg; explore Bamberg, sample Rauchbier (overnight @ Bamberg) Day 4 Monday: explore Bamberg; sample more Rauchbier at midday, then train to/near Mainz or somewhere in RP Lander-ticket zone
(overnight in RP) Day 5 Tuesday: explore Rhine or Mosel then go to FRA in evening Day 5: Tuesday: train back to FRA for late evening departure So this is two nights in RodT and one night in Bamberg and one on the Rhine. Is this too much to put in this time? Should I delete either Bamburg or Rhine, and just do two destinations? Are RodT and Bamberg very similar? For rail travel: Friday: FRA to RodT buy a regular local ticket (35 euro) cannot find a pass to work with this Sunday: RodT to Bamberg: buy a Baveria Landers pass for 21eu? Cannot be used before 9:00am, but could stop in many towns if I wish Monday: Bamberg to ~Mainz: buy a regular local ticket if less than 42Eu? Or is there a pass that would work for most of the distance? Tuesday: buy RP pass (21eu) or point-to-point; will need S-Bahn ticket from RP to FRA. Comments, please! Thank you
For FRA to RodT, you can buy a local (RMV) ticket to Kahl (Main) Bhf for €7,30. Kahl is in Bayern, so you can use a Bayern-Ticket Single for Kahl to RodT for €21. If you buy the local ticket and Bayern-Ticket from an automat in the Regionalbhf at the airport, you can take the S-Bahn to Frankfurt Hbf and one of the hourly REs to Würzburg. At Kahl, you don't change trains, just tickets. Bamberg to Mainz: You could use another €21 Bayern-Ticket back to Kahl and a ptp regional ticket from Kahl to Mainz for €14,40 (a little less than the €42 QdL Ticket). I looks like you have a pretty good handle on the tickets and pricing.
Thank you for the suggestion. Regarding the itinerary, should I try to do RodT, Bamberg and the Rhine, or would I be better off with just two: RodT/Bamberg, or RodT/Rhine? Are RodT and Bamberg sufficiently different to include both in this short trip?
