Four hours in Zurich? Christkindlimarkt or into town?

We arrive by train four hours before the night train departure. I want to see Distillerie zur Schnapsboutique (for walnut schnapps), Sprungli, and hit a Migros or Coop. I think Sprungli and Migros are in the train station rail city but I would like to know if I can get into town and back in less than four hours time. We will have been on a train and plane for a two days and thought it would be good to stretch our legs and go into a city. What do you think? Also, the Zurcher Christkindlimarkt will be going on in Railcity while I am there. Is it just as well to stay in the railCity and see Christkindlimarkt?

Lori,

The beauty of train travel a lot of the time is that you are right in the city. Zurich is no different. Walk out the main entrance to the station and you will be in the middle of it all. Designer shops, a COOP just by the river all will be available to you within a 5 minute walk.

You should have no problem whatsoever of spending a couple of hours in the city and even having an hour or so left over to check out the market in the station.

It will be easy to do all of that within 4 hours. The Sprungli is on your way out of the train station as you are walking to the Bahnhofstrasse and will be right next to the Christmas market. I think that the Christmas market is worth a quick walk though, even if you just see the big Christmas tree. The schnaps boutique is at most a 20 minute walk (less if you take public transportation & sorry I do not know the address). If you plug the address to the schnaps shop into google maps it will show you the best way to take public transportation. There is a Migros downstairs in the train station and there is a large Coop on the Bahnhofstrasse (about a 5-7 minute walk from the train station). The original Sprungli is at Paradoplatz on the Bahnhofstrasse.
