Four hours in Barcelona

We'll arrive in Barcelona at 9 a.m. on Nov. 10 and starting our Mediterranean cruise there. We can't arrive at the ship before 2 p.m. so we'll have a few hours to kill in Barcelona. Any suggestions on what we could do with that time? Can we check our bags at the airport and sightsee a little and what is worth seeing? Any help on this topic much appreciated.

The airport is about a 20-30 minute train ride to one of the main squares of the city so I don't know how practical it is to have to go back and forth to the airport to get your luggage. Will the ship store it for you?

If I had only 4 hours in Barcelona I would probably walk down the Ramblas, see La Pedrera (the Casa Mila apartment building by Gaudi) and the Cathedral. I think that would easily take up 4 hours.

At the Placa de Catalunya, at the top of La Rambla, there's an excellent Tourist Info center. It's also the central point for the city's Bus Turistic, a hop-on, hop off service that takes two routes through the city. Each run takes about 2 hours if you don't get off. No narration, but a booklet highlights each of the stops. Check out http://tinyurl.com/hfq9f for details on that, and some other things you might want to do (like a stroll down La Rambla heading towards the port.)

I don't know about your luggage but If I only had a few hours I would wander around the La Boquiera (I am probably spelling that wrong). It is the covered market that is there. Look at all the stalls selling Saffron(it's in season now), eat real tapas, Maybe drink sangrias etc..

One of my favorite markets in Europe But then again I am into food.

There is much more to see in Barcelona to be sure but you need a few days at least.

I just returned from Barcelona. I think considering the short time you have I would walk the Ramblas from Placa Catlunya to the sea, stopping at the wonderful La Boqueria market on the right side on your way. If you had timeI would get a taxi up to Casa Mila, Gaudi's apartment complex. It is very interesting. I don't think you will have time to do Sagrada Familia. You will get a good feel for the city. As you are walking down the Ramblas you will see some of the Gaudi architecture, it is everywhere!

You can also do the hop on/hop off bus. THere's 2 routes.. a red and blue I think. A green route during peak season... but I think November won't be peak.

You don't have to hop off the bus but at least you can see all the tourist attractions, including the Sacred Family church, the Gaudi buildings, etc. on top of a double deck bus.
