Fountains at Versailles

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are traveling to Paris in late September. It looks like it's going to work better for us to use our Paris Museum pass for Versailles (since there is no 3-day pass). The museum pass doesn't include the musical water shows, and our plan was to go either Friday or Saturday. If we go Friday, it looks like we can visit the gardens on the Paris museum pass. Have you found that to be true? If we go on Saturday, is it worth it or even possible to pay the 7 euros each to walk the gardens and see the fountains?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I was there on an weekend in mid June and didn't find it crowded at all. I enjoyed the interior of the palace but by far, the majority of my pictures are of the fountains. I wouldn't call it a music show, even though they did play music. From that name, I expected fountains synchronized with music but it's just fountains running with music in the back ground. After i got over that, I really enjoyed walking around looking at all the fountains. It added so much that I can't imagine being there and NOT seeing the fountains. We bought the rail pass which included everything, including the tour head phones.

Yes you can visit gardens with Museum pass on Friday , and on Sat. too, but as you noted you will have to pay the garden/fountain supplement on Sat.
I would choose Fri. over Sat. just to avoid mega crowds( it will still be busy and crowded on Friday anyways) , but I have seen fountain show so no big deal to me. Frankly yes fountain show is nice, but it isn't the second coming , first, it is not all day, the fountains only work for 1/2 hour or so at a time, at intervals during the day , and the music is blared from speakers,, the foutains are cool to see running , but having been to Versailles 7 times( over many years) it isn't the mian point of interst to me.

Be sure to walk all the way down to the Queen's Hamlet. We enjoyed it more than the palace.

Another note - with the Museum Pass train ticket and audio guide are not included.

You may want to consider the Forfait Loisirs which would include all the above and allow you to move ahead in line - reduce your Museum pass purchase (if possible)

The fountains are impressive - and it is a pleasant time of year to stroll in the garden and imagine Louis XVI walking along and the palace workers running to turn a fountain on ahead of him (as it was a manual situation at the time).

Be sure to check if the fountains are on near the end of September. Two years ago they were turned off for the season in late September. Fountains or no fountains the place is a fantastic visit. Have a great time.

After visiting Versailles several times it was definitely worth it to see the fountains. Also take the time to visit the small chateaux and the Hamlet.

I visited Versailles on Friday, August 15. Apparently, the fountains are NOT turned on until 3:30 pm (15:30). I was just about ready to leave and almost missed them. Even at that, I no longer had the time to retrace my steps to see them all (or even the most famous ones). So... visit later on Fridays or on Saturday if you really want to see the fountains in operation. And yes, I would recommend that.

David the fountains are normally on only on Sat and Sundays. You must have just hit it lucky, perhaps just a maintenance turn on. We were there in July on a Thurs and then turned one on for about 5 minutes. No music or anything, just on and off.

But, that is a good point, if you plan a shorter visit to Versailles( I always go with the full day to stay there) then do check out the fountain schedule, they do not run all day, but only at intervals for short periods, so be sure to check .
