Fougax et Barrineuf, Ariege. South of Toulouse. Anybody know this area?

We now have the opportunity to rent a farmhouse in this area next year. It is close to the Pyrenees and Andorra [in fact its in the foothills] from what I can tell on a map. Does anybody have any experience in travelling to this area.
Thanks

Just want to know how far it is from the Spanish Border. Also what the general area is like for sightseeing. From what i understand its quite a forested area as its in the foothills. We willh ave access to a car if we take them up on the rental of the farmhouse. Wondering how far it would be to the coast etc. Generalised questions rather than anything really specific. Its south of Toulouse and West of Carcasonne so I imagine we could easily catch a train from Paris once we arrive etc

We spent time in that area twice and liked it very much. It is much less touristy than many other parts of France. We liked the cities of Perpignan, Narbonne, and, of course, Toulouse. There are also many charming medieval villages. The area is rich with romanesque churches and abbeys. One of the best prehistoric sites still open to the public, the Grotte de Niaux, is located near Foix. (Make advance reservations if you're interested. Only 20 people are allowed in at a time. They have English language tours at certain hours.) We used the Cadogan guide, "Gascony and the Pyrenees," to find all the places we wanted to visit.
