Please, can anyone give me precise details for using Forfaits Loisirs (combination travel and entry tickets) to Versailles? We are staying in the Montparnasse area, closest metro stations Edgar Quinet, and Gaite. also near Gare Montparnasse. I tried using online RER & Metro sites, but can't seem to make everything click. We will be in Paris 3,4,5,& 6 OCT. Would like to go on Sunday 5 OCT. Merci to anyone who can help.
I am not a good person for presise details,,but I will give you useful tips.
First, write down " Forfaits Loisirs Versailles" on a small peice of paper. When purchasing ticket at the ticket kiosk at the RER station it is MOST helpful not to rely on your accent and pronouncation, say it, and show it,you will not be misunderstood.
It comes in a little ( about the size of a CC) folder, and the RER tickets look very very similar to regular metro tickets( but are printed slightly differently) so keep them seperate. They will fall out of the little folder if you are not careful, I wished they had given me an envelope, and yes, you need the other ticket to return so don't lose it.
You need to go to an RER station that has the line that goes to Versialles. That is line C.From where you are it looks like you best route is to take the metro from Gare Montparnasse Bienvenue .Take line 6 , in direction of Charles de Gaulle Etoile, GET off at Bir Hakeim walk in the passage the " correspondence" for the RER stop Champ de Mars De Tour Eiffel. Get on train, viola, you arrive 30 minutes later in Versailles. Do note you must take a train going to Rive Gauche, Versailles, or Vick. It sounds way more difficult then it is,, trust me . First, many others are doing the same thing,, once you are at Champ dE Mars the station will likely be filled with other tourists going the exact same place you are!
I suggest you get a metro map( they are available everywhere, and trace route with your finger. Just find where you are,, then follow the route I made out,you will start on the metro( think city subway) line but need to travel to Versailles on the RER line( suburban train system) so all you are trying to do is get to line C direction Versailles.
Perhaps someone can suggest a more direct way of doing it, I am no pro at this, but I have managed to get my self to Versailles quite a few times, but always from different places.
PS It helps to write down routing ( directions ie )
Pat's route will work fine, but there is a more direct route. Buy your Forfait Loisirs at the Transilien office at Gare Montparnasse. Take a SNCF train from Gare Montparnasse to Viroflay-Rive Gauche. Take the RER C from there to Versailles-Rive Gauche. For a zoomable map of the Metro, RER, and Transilien lines, go here.
