From the Paris Gare de Lyon, can we take a train to both of these Castles? Which one should we visit first? We plan on visiting them Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Thanks, Esther

Since I haven't been to either chateau, I have no opinion on which one you should visit first. However, I can tell you that Melun (the station closest to Vaux le Vicomte) and Fontainebleau-Avon (the station closest to Fontainebleau) are on the same SNCF line. Trains from Gare de Lyon that stop at Melun also stop at Fontainebleau-Avon. The stations are 10-15 minutes apart. You can also get from Paris to Melun on the RER D.
