Hello, we are traveling to Germany the last week of August and first week of September.. flying into Munich, staying for a couple nights then traveling to Garmish then on to Lake Constance area.
Any tips on accomodations in either Munich, or Lake Constance Area?
Any places we definately should put on the itinerary?
You do have a guidebook, right? If not, you need one. Munich is filled with things to do. Rick's book gives many accommodations recommendations for Munich so we'll assume you have his book. On the way from Garmisch to Konstanz, there's the Neuschwanstein Castle, it's just a cheap knock off of the DisneyWorld FantasyLand Castle but not bad for a copy. :)just kiddingRick doesn't cover Konstanz accommodations (guess it's not a huge destinations for N. Americans--so here's a couple to get you started: www.hotel-barleben.de and www.konstnz.steigenberger.de, these will be a bit spendy in dollars but Konstanz is that kind of place. You can find more hotels if you go to www.viamichelin.com, select hotels, find Konstanz (I'd spell it that way) and it will give you about 30 hotels including (probably) these two, all recommended by the Michelin experts.
Check out the King's Hotel (s) in Munich. I've stayed there twice and found them to be VERY clean, located close to the Hauptbahnhoff and moderately priced. See Rick's book. 2 days in Munich...chocked full of things to see and do. Take the U-Bahn to see the Olympic village, it's impressive. Marienplatz can fill an entire day. Have fun.
Keri, Lindau has a website, www.lindau.de, with a lot of information about the island, much of it available in English. There is also a listing of accommodations. That's in German, but with a little help from Babelfish you can find places. Most have their own website, and a lot of those have information in English.
I'd like to help you with Munich accommodations, but the staff at the only place I have ever stayed at in Munich (5x, 13 days) only speaks German, and I know they wouldn't be comfortable with someone who can't.
BTW, Keri, although it would be pricey to stay at one of those hotels alongside the little harbor in Lindau, to look out your window, through the lion and the lighthouse at the harbor entrance, and see the Alps across the lake in Switzerland would be priceless.
We loved Lindau. We enjoyed Hotel am Holderaggenpark. Excellent rates , brfast and supper clean and beautiful area about 15 min leisurely & pretty walk from train station.
The Deutsches Museum!
I consider it the German version of the Smithsonian!
PLEASE make time to go there, I promise you will love it!!!!!!!!!

Last October we did the exact route. At Lake Constance we chose to stay in Meersburg at the Gasthof Zum Baeren. www.baeren-meersburg.de It was a lovely B&B inside the old town area. Food was great and we were right in the middle of the medieval part of the city. Beautiful sunsets, great onion pies (like quiche) and right by the lake.
When we are in Munich we always stay at the Hotel Uhland. www.hotel-uhland.de It is located in a quiet area, but nearby is the Weis'n, where preparations will be underway for the Octoberfest. Even if you are not going to be there for Octoberfest, watching the temporary city go up, just for Octoberfest is amazing. To get to Uhland, we take the train from the airport to the Bahnhof, then it is one stop on the subway. We have walked it as well. Probably 15 min.
