I will be spending 3 weeks in Geneva this summer, and will then have a week to travel wherever I please. I am making room for all of Switzerland and also Bavaria in my planning possibilities, depending on any info. I can get from helpful people on these boards. :)
I am really hoping to find somewhere off the beaten path to hike and do a little fishing in some small creeks and rivers. I am more concerned with solitude and beauty than I am with fantastic fishing, and am hoping to find somewhere "local" and not a tourist destination. I plan on renting a motorcycle, so travel along popular train routes etc. is not ecessary. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have a copy of John Hermann's "Motorcycle Journeys through the Alps" from Whitehorse Press? It could be very helpful in planning an itinerary. There are lakes and streams all over Switzerland, and beautiful scenery abounds, but solitude in the wilderness sense is a little harder to find, even if you get off the main tourist path. Also, many of the high mountain streams come straight out of glaciers and thus are silty---does that affect the fishing? I've done quite a lot of alpine hiking there, but I've never seen anyone fishing the high streams. I did find on Google some lakes near kandersteg that are known for good fishing: Daubensee, Lämmernsee, and Oeschinensee. Daubensee is on a high plateau reached by cable-car and a hike, so it's pretty remote. Lämmernsee is above Leukerbad and looks pretty remote in the photos. Oeschinensee is lovely but definitely not remote. If you read German or French, here is a website that might help: http://www.fishfinder.ch
