We are looking at flying from Lisbon to Madrid, then from Madrid to Rome. Have seen the horror stories on airlines in Europe, need help on selection of Airline(s) for these flights and hopefully getting our luggage when arrive. Biggest concern is the Madrid to Rome flight. Thanks for any input

Not sure the horror stories about airlines in Europe are any worse than that horror stories about airlines in North America. Because European discount airlines generally fly Point A to Point B, and because they don't transfer your luggage to connecting flights, you actually stand a better chance of getting your bags back intact. The two best sites for exploring your routes are whichbudget.com and flylc.com. In selecting a route and airline on flylc, you may be redirected to the Bravofly website to book. Don't. Instead, go directly to the airline's website and book there...that way you'll find out about all the fare and luggage rules in effect on that flight.
