Flight Itinerary from USA to San Sebastian & back

I plan to go to San Sebastian in the summer. One of my options of getting there from the US via American Airlines is to arrive in Madrid and connect to Bilbao thru Aire Iberia. I noticed that I must take a train or bus from Bilabo to get to San Sebastian. My concern is really about my return flight home, which would entail catching an EARLY train or bus in enough time to get to the airport in Bilbao by 7:30am to connect back to Madrid. I am not savvy or experienced with riding a bus or train to return to an airport for an early AM flight. Any suggestions from some of you experienced travelers? My only experience with riding a train was to visit Segovia and El Escorial from Madrid, but I was not on my way to an airport, this was just a weekend excursion and I was not on a specific schedule. Thanks!

For that early a flight out of Bilbao, I'd suggest getting a hotel in that city the night before you depart. There are many trains/day between Bilbao and San Sebastian....it's almost like a commuter rail service. But you won't find one early enough to get you into Bilbao and out to the airport by 6:30 am.

You can catch a bus at the airport in Bilbao to theSan Sebastian bus station. When we arrived there was a bus waiting outside and in an hour we were in San Sabastian.
Not sure about departure times in the morning from San Sebastian for the Bilbao airport. We took the bus from San Sebastian to Madrid very early in the morning and there was lots of bus traffic so there may also be a bus to Bilbao that will get you to the airport in time.

I also saw plenty of good connections from DFW via MAD to EAS (San Sebastian) directly... It would be all IB flight designator but the transatlantic leg is operated by AA...
