Flamenco shows- Adult only?

I have 12 and 16 yr old boys. Is this appropriate?

Yes, I would think so. It's possible they could be bored, but I doubt it. We went to Cafe de Chinitas in Madrid for their dinner and flamenco - wonderful show, dinner kind of pricey. It's possible to do the show only, but I don't think the seating would be close to the stage. What is your concern?

I've only been to the show at the Casa de la Memoria in Seville. There were a number of families there, and it was totally appropriate for all ages. As far as I know, flamenco shows are about dancing and singing - not stripping. It's about the artistry of the performers - the graceful movements of the arms and the like - and is not in any way sleazy. If this is wrong, I'd love to be corrected. Not to mention that if you think 12 and 16 year old boys haven't seen everything there is to see, think again. But a flamenco show is not like the Folies Bergere or the Crazy Horse in Paris - no nudity is involved.

Flamenco is NOT a burlesque show. It's dancing with a very long, very rich, multi-cultural tradition. If your family sees a good performance, I think they will be blown away. The kids will love it.

Michelle it will probably BORE them unless they have a huge interest in dance. I am not sure how it could possibly be interpeted to be even remotely inappropriate in any other way,, its like taking your kids to a great square dance or ballet, theres no boobies involved , lol

Thanks for the info! Some of the descriptions I've read sounded kind of "clubby" like something you might experience in a jazz bar- atmosphere wise. Wasn't sure if "chuldren" would be allowed or frowned upon if it was like a "bar" in the US.
As for the "boobies" :)- LOL! 12 yr old CAN'T wait to go to Barcelona (we're also there for a week) as he thinks he's going to see lots of them on the beaches :)!

The tourist oriented performances will be an atmosphere appropriate for children. I suppose some standard bars do stage some flamenco late at night in an atmosphere where kids don't belong. The tourist ones serve drinks, but it's more like a dinner theater atmosphere. As I said, I think the kids will like it. The more tourist-oriented performances have the brightly colored dresses, guitar music, and the performers tend to dance more as a group. It can be loud and flamboyant, and it doesn't hurt that some of the performers will be pretty senoritas...

My kids, at that age, would have been bored to tears by a flamenco show. I can't imagine teenage boys being even remotely interested in it. (In the interest of full disclosure, you won't get me back there again. My Spanish friends wouldn't go, either.)
