We will be in Barcelona for a few days in June 09. Any recommendations to see some good flamenco dancing?
Since I now know that Barcelona is not the place for flamenco, any recommendations for Sevilla or that vicinity?

Flamenco is not native to Barcelona. While I'm sure you could find some there, you could probably also find some in Sacramento.
I suspect that the flamenco you might encounter in Barcelona would be manufactured for cruise ship passengers...something that you could check off a list, but about as real as Disneyland.
If you're looking for anything akin to an authentic experience, look for flamenco in or around Sevilla, or at least somewhere in that part of Spain. Remember, in many respects Barcelona is about as "Spanish" as Paris is.
Now, Barcelona is one of the coolest cities on the planet, and there's no shortage of great things to see and do there. But I don't think flamenco would be high on my list there.
I agree with David. You need to be in Andalucia.
I was in Barcelona earlier this year and don't recall seeing anything about flamenco (which is a passion of mine, so I hope I would have noticed).
Barcelona is a fabulous city - I hope you're too busy having a wonderful time enjoying it to think about flamenco!
Thank you both! Then I'll look into it when I'm in Sevilla.
Hi John,
We enjoyed flamenco in Sevilla at Casa de la Memoria de Al-Andalus (you can find reviews of the performance on Trip Advisor.) It's described in Rick's Spain book as a less-touristy, alcohol-free environment. You'll sit on folding chairs surrounding a small stage--we thought that the music, costumes and dancing were great. It's located adjacent to the Hotel Alcantara at Ximenez de Enciso 28.
Rick's book on Spain lists several recommended venues for Flamenco in Sevilla. When we were there a few weeks ago, we did "Los Gallos" (in the book) and enjoyed it thoroughly.
