We're arriving in St. Malo by ferry and renting a car there. We've been to Dinan and Mont St. Michel, and plan to spend five nights in Brittany. We can either spend the last night in Vannes or Rennes, and then turn in the car and take a morning train to Paris. We definitely want to see the Rose Granite Coast, the standing stones in the area of Carnac, and the area around Vitres. Any suggestions as to places to stay and routes to take, as well as sights to see? Thanks, ER
This will be in late September.
We are traveling in mid-Sept. We are spending a night in Fougeres, very close to Vitres. You can "google" to see if the sights there might be of interest to you.
If you head down to Carnac, I can recommend a night in Pont-Aven on the way. Painters' town where Gauguin spent quite a bit of time. It's a charming town on the Aven river. The Castel Braz is a great place to stay if you don't mind stairs; for something simpler there's Les Ajoncs d'Or right on the town square.
Driving a little inland from the Rose Granite Coast you can also see the "Enclos paroissial" - Parish Close. You find them in numerous little villages throughout the Finistere. My favourite one is probably Lampaul-Guimiliau. http://ca-en.franceguide.com/Inside-Brittany-s-Parish-Walls.html?NodeID=1&EditoID=30590
